What is the weakness of Luffy?
Can Luffy become the strongest in One Piece? Why does he seem so weak lately?
I genuinely look forward to detailed theories or explanations about the query if Luffy can become the strongest and why does he seem weak lately. I would love to learn more about what the fans feel or think about it. References to arc examples or any other possibilities would also be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Maybe because Kaido and Big mom are his opponents?
Luffy hasn’t gotten weaker, it’s just that these are the strongest opponents he’s faced so he doesn’t seem as strong to you in comparison to previous antagonists.

Honestly he seems super strong in this arc so far, big mom and kaido are really strong too. Do you have any evidence to how he’s weak?

He is extremely strong going by the enemies he is against. Probably Admiral level or at least near it currently in the manga.

Pirate King doesn’t mean being the strongest. It means they completed the Grandline and found the One Piece. I don’t think Luffy will ever become the strongest character in One Piece. Also, let’s not forget that he’s currently fighting with some of the most powerful characters in One Piece.

He looks very strong right now.
I guess you’re saying he seems weak because of what happened at the beginning of the Wano arc?
But you have to keep in mind that his opponents are Yonkos, they’re as strong if not stronger than Admirals.
And Luffy learnt some new techniques and is now able to face off against both Kaido and Big Mom. He’s super strong!!

But Shanks is guarding the one piece, you would have to be crazy strong to be able to beat shanks? Luffy will have to become the strongest.

I understand where this is coming from, you look at other shonen protags from other shonen series and they are pretty much labeled as heroes of their respective franchises with no one rivaling them but let’s be fair, naruto, fairy tail, bleach is finished. One piece is still ongoing. Luffy himself has made great strides in the new world in terms of overall strength, skill and fighting aptitude. Even his abilities have evolved quite alot since the pre time skip luffy. The difference with one piece I think is the Antagonists of this series especially now that we have gotten introduced to legends like ROCKS, Gol D. Roger and Imu sama, readers fear that Oda won’t be able to close that power gap against such monsters. Luffy obviously is NOT the strongest in his world and there are enemies out there that are just 10 times stronger probably. Oda once said that he wasn’t sure how to defeat Kaido because of the high level of threat he imposses, but yet shortly after that he introduces enemies even stronger so as you can see. ODA loves his villians and likes it to be a massive challenge for the straw hats to over come and THAT is deffinitly not a bad thing as a narative descision
But I have faith in oda and I can’t wait to see how he will makes things more interesting towards the end. I personally love how the Threat level of one piece is always considered to be extremely high, despite the growth of the main characters. It makes for a far more interesting story with more consequences, lethal showdowns and all around a greater danger that is present. Something I think was missing a lot of in the pre time skip era of OP.
With other shonen series you get this sort of unbalanced power scaling where the main hero becomes too strong, over taking many of the enemies or you get antagonistic roles that are exclusive to their own respective arcs and then written off, never feeling like an overarching threat like much of the villains in fairy tail Or in naruto case, characters become so godly powerful, that everyone else is living in the shadows of the main Protag much like how Dragonball left most of the non-Saiyan’s in the dust, delegated to minor roles in dbz. I LOVE THAT ODA DOES NOT DO THIS!!
In this world everyone grows and develops and evolves and yes, that WALL that luffy must climb is a LARGE ONE but that certainly makes it all the more satisfying and rewarding to watch him overcome those obstacles and become a true LEGEND in HIS story.

I don’t understand how anyone could think that Luffy is weaker in this arc; his loss against Kaido was due to a) him jumping into the fight recklessly and not thinking clearly, and b) Kaido being a freaking Yonko. We were literally told when Kaido debuted that in a 1-on-1 fight Kaido would always win, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Luffy lost to him early in the Wano arc.
Of course it’s guaranteed that Luffy will inevitably win in a rematch anyway, but that’s because he trained during his stay at the prison.

Please can you clarify Why do you think luffy became weak. On the contrary, he is becoming stronger and stronger. He is facing two strongest emperors of the sea . Imo he may be the strongest rookie of worst generation.

Oda answered that question, he said that he didnt want to give Luffy an OP devil fruit so he wont win fights by being the strongest but by being creative or lucky sometimes or else it would be boring

Logical Weakness / One Piece
The Devil Fruits as well as specific other powers of One Piece can frequently fall into Logical Weakness.
- Luffy’s rubber body, which makes him more or less immune to blunt force, renders him no less vulnerable to blades than he ever was. For Luffy, heat also apparently makes him extra squishy. He also requires constant muscle control to not stretch.
- Nico Robin’s ability to grow countless copies of her body parts from any solid surface within a large radius, including right from the bodies of her enemies, and perfectly control them as if they were normal parts of her body, would be incredibly powerful if not for the fact that copies also transfer feedback as they were normal parts of her body — not only does she feel pain whenever they are damaged (which happens easily, given that they retain her unimpressive durability), enemies can channel harmful Devil Fruit effects through them.
- God Enel’s lightning-based powers have no effect on rubber, thus allowing Luffy to harm him. But even then, Enel has Observation Haki that allows him to predict any attack, so Luffy still can’t hit him. Luffy gets around this by ricocheting his punches off of a wall. Since Luffy isn’t consciously controlling where his attacks are going after they ricocheted, Enel can’t predict them, and he gets pummelled. Enel eventually loses to an attack that he can foresee but not stop until too late because it’s simply too fast; just because he knows something is coming doesn’t automatically mean he can react fast enough to stop it.
- Kalifa’s Soap-Soap powers may De-power any skilled fighter, but she would immediately be vulnerable if someone washes the soap away with lots of water.
- One of Enel’s top fighters, Satori, has the same ability to predict any attack and relies on it so much that when something unexpected happens, he gets really rattled. Luffy takes advantage of the distraction to wrap him up. Satori can see Sanji’s ensuing kick coming, but bound as he is he has no ability to counter it.
- Perona has the power to generate ghosts that strip anyone’s spirit and optimism from them. But to her shock, they don’t work on Usopp. He’s such a pessimist he actually inverts the power: depressing the ghosts and even Perona herself.
- Magma beats fire due to the hotter temperatures and magma being able to snuff out fire from its oxygen source. Meanwhile, ice has a hard time against fire and to a greater extent, magma. For an odd example, the more or less completely useless by this point, Mr. 3’s wax power, in fact blocks almost every single poison Magellan has, although it’s almost completely useless in the intensely hot fourth level of the prison.
- Several Alabastan soldiers drink a potion thatmakes them extremely powerful, but will kill them in minutes. Crocodile realizes this and decides to simply wait out the duration, out of reach of their attacks, letting them die.
- Crocodile is finally defeated when Luffy figures out that Crocodile’s ability to turn into sand can be hampered by becoming wet, so Luffy coats his hands with his own blood, allowing his punches to work.
- Logia in general fall into this category, as they are literally elemental beings (though not always stuff we’d consider «elements»), and as such are vulnerable to the weaknesses of that element. Lightning losing to rubber, sand losing to liquids making it stick together, candy (no, seriously) losing to cooking flour that negates its stickiness so that attacking enemies won’t become trapped, etc. Considering how powerful a Logia is, and how invulnerable they are, exploiting a logical elemental weakness is one of the few things on the entire planet that can even potentially harm them, unless a person has Armament Haki, which lets them hurt Logia users even if they’re in an elemental form. Plus there’s the matter that Logia are more sensitive to water than other Devil Fruit users: as in Luffy can get splashed and still fight (even if he’s submerged, he just can’t move himself, though others can still manipulate his body), while if someone like Smoker gets doused, he can’t transform the wet body part until it’s dry.
- Blackbeard’s Dark-Dark Fruit, despite being a Logia, works very differently. His element is darkness, which has black hole-ish properties. but said gravity is constantly applied to him. It not only forces his own body to stay together (he can’t assume an elemental form), but it also attracts enemy attacks towards him; this makes said attacks harder to avoid, stronger and more painful.
- This logical weaknesses was actually attached all the way back to Buggy the Clown. While his Chop-Chop powers enable him to split his body into numerous floating pieces, some part of his body needs to be the «base» part and stay on the ground. That’s why Luffy is able to find and successfully attack his feet.
- This is also Scratchman Apoo’s weakness, having a Devil Fruit power that translates music and sounds he makes into attacks. If one is outside the hearing range of the noises Apoo is making, or even if they just cover their ears, the attacks have no effect. Of course, that brings up a logical weakness of its own. «WHAT?!»
- Katakuri also displays another Logical Weakness to Observation Haki, despite being a master. If the user’s concentration and resolve is broken by any means, for instance showing great uncontrolled emotions, they can’t use it for a while.
